X-Men Reading Order from X-Men #1 to X-Men Disassembled!

What you will find below is the most complete listing of X-Men comics in chronological order you’ll probably find. The principles of this reading order are simple:

  • Flashbacks are listed of when the “present” occurs, ensuring that issue is placed in the order it should be read.
  • Issues are kept intact, and most notable appearances of the X-Men in other comics that are considered canon are included.
  • Each issue contains a number (subject to change) listing its place in the order, in regards to the effective number of Uncanny X-men issues.
  • Unfortunately, changes aren’t tracked; though you can compare with our Archives of older lists.
  • New comics won’t be added frequently (too time-consuming and constantly in flux anyways).  No need to ask when I will update to add in the latest releases; it’ll happen sometime, but not in any frequency to depend on the list to read your new issues. If you read new comics, both single issues and trades, then just read them as they come out.
  • The links on the issue should lead you to that issue’s entry at Mycomicshop.com and is a good place to see the cover and other details.

Where to begin Reading X-Men?

With publication of X-Men comics spanning decades, not everyone will want to start reading off of the X-Men reading order at issue #1, and for those who do want to, you’ll probably want to start with a more accessible trade paperback. Alternatively, you can read our Timeline of Major X-Men Events to get caught up to what’s happened in X-Men comics. Here are few suggestions.

How To Use the X-Men Reading Order

First, it is not recommended to read every issue in this list.

The medium was conceived as being disposable, and the incredible amount of stories created since has left the task of reading everything nearly possible and, quite frankly, unrewarding.  Reading all this would be the equivalent of “binge-watching” General Hospital.  It’s better to consider comics as being modular; each reader has their own “order” based on what they have read or want/expect to read, and they all can base that order on where those issue are found here.

    1. I’ve been tying the order numbers in relation to Uncanny X-Men issues, and Uncanny X-Men went into reprints from #67 to #93, so those issues stories are already included in the reading order. I Used 93.002 indicate an issue before 94, but an issue that isn’t Uncanny X-Men (in this case, Giant Size X-Men), as all Uncanny X-Men issues should be number .001.

    2. I just hit that part of the reading order myself and found that the intervening issues were all reprints. The newer Hidden Years series attempts to fill in that gap.

  1. Just wanted to thank whoever put all the time into this list. Never read a comic before but always loved the X-men. So between this, Marvel Unlimited, and Amazon I’m beginning my slow trudge through 60 years of X-men history. No way I would have undertaken such a journey without such a well put together list.

Thanks again for all the hard work

    1. Thanks!

Let us know how your reading goes… it’s always great to get some feedback from a new reader to help us adjust our reading order!

      1. I’m pleasantly surprised at how many comics are available for reading with Marvel Unlimited. I’ve made it all the way to Uncanny X-men 94 and all I’ve had to actually buy was the X-men Hidden Years.

As for your order, it’s been spot on so far, which I can see is hard when you have to mix the original with the modern

Though I would say to add Avengers #47-49. It’s the ones that show how Magneto gets back to earth the second time and how Scarlet Witch lost her powers. It should go before Uncanny X-men # 43.

    2. I also want to chime in and say thank you! I am trying to read Wolverine and the X-men with the issues around that series (because the students rock) and this makes it so, so much easier. So thank you!

  2. Thank you! I’ve been using this list a lot and its helped guide me to read all the way up to current!

  3. Thank you so much!!!!!! I have been trying to find this for a very long time, and you covered all the bases. You are the absolute coolest, I can’t imagine the time it took to put this together. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

    1. Any chance you have this available for download as an excel sheet (or something similar)? I’d love to be able to check off what I have and what I need. It has been my goal since getting back into comics last year to read every single X book in order.

      1. I personally use a Firefox plug-in that allows you to copy HTML tables to paste in Excel. I’d recommend that.

  4. Whoah, your chronology was really enhancing my reading experience of the x-men, but i cant forgive you for this HUUUUGE spoiler: “Nathan gest sent to future to become Cable”. i mean, seriously? and i find out that it is full of this kind of spoilers…

    1. Sorry about that. I’m removing as much spoiler-y things that I can as I review. Basically, my rule of thumb will be to not foreshadow anything that wasn’t in the book. I will keep the 1st appearance notes, departing team members and deaths for quick search and reference. I’m also thinking of making another list with the “details” hidden, so you only have the issue numbers.

  5. Some stuff off the top of my head that seems to be missing:

    Mutopia X, X-Men/Alpha Flight (the ’80s one), Frank Tieri’s Weapon X series….

Otherwise, probably the best, most complete, most sensible, most up-to-date one of these that’s floating around the web.

  6. Great feature!

The sheer number of issues is, naturally quite daunting, are there any plans to pare down to an “essential” list, ala the spider-man reading order?

Thanks for all your hard work.

    1. Thanks!

While there are “plans” to eventually pare this down just like the Spider-Man reading order, I’m not sure if this will even start to be published within a year’s time. While it would be even more beneficial for the X-Men because there are even more issues, it gets troublesome when it comes down to what to cut. With Spider-Man, I followed the life events of Peter Parker, but with the X-Men there isn’t a lot to cut for issues without character development, and then we get into cutting certain characters from being “important” in order to cut the reading list.

That being said, If enough requests come through for this, I might make it a priority, though perhaps only publish one section at a time over the course of a year or two rather than one big block.

If anybody has info to help get us started, you’re welcome to share!

  7. Thank you SOOOOO much, I’ve been looking for something like this to tell me the order of them, so I know which ones I want to buy and such. You are the best!

  8. I think your number is off. You don’t start counting the second volume of Uncanny X-men as starting points for numbers until issue 11 (545.001 by your numbering). 545.001 should actually be Uncanny X-men () #1, which you have as 544.007. This throws off the numbering for everything past 544.006.

    1. Thanks. I’ll be updating the whole list soon (I’m waiting for the end of Battle of the Atom and Infinity to update all my Marvel lists.)

  9. Good work! Thank you very much! Saved helluva lot time for me…

But alas! my favourite one is missing: X-Men and Alpha Flight 1-2 (1985).

That’s a tricy one indeed, but not impossible. It takes place IN THE MIDDLE of Uncanny X-Men # 192: after the X-Men’s fight against Magus (page 21, panel 3), and before Xavier’s unfortunate street mugging event (page 21, panel 4 onward). Between panel 3 and 4 there is a note “Some months later…” There, in those months, we can find the room for this wonderful philosophical fable of Mr. Claremont and Mr. Paul Smith!

So in your system, I would put it in between Uncanny X-Men # 192 and # 193. Or have I missed something?

      1. Also missing: Fantastic Four vs X-Men (1987).

        Here is the reading order:

        Uncanny X-Men #219
        Uncanny X-Men Annual #11
        Fantastic Four vs X-Men #1-4
        Uncanny X-Men #220

I just love Claremont’s treatment on Dr. Doom!

  10. Great list! I can’t wait for you to add in the other series you mentioned previously … I also noticed that the following weren’t added

The Age of Apocalypse: The Chosen
    X-Universe #1
    X-Universe #2

They all fall in that AoA series … I’ve noticed that so many people ask if you have an “excel” or “spreadsheet” of your list and you refer them to FF. You might be interested in posting a google excel doc link that you can update as you want. You can set it so that others can view it but not edit it and what not then use the blog to be your finalized version.

  11. Thank you so much for this list, I just started reading the x-men series from 94 on. I have completed uncanny x-men 94+, x-men vol 2, wolverine vol 2, x-factor, Excalibur, and new mutants so i’m good til 1991 when I will have to get x-force. Is Generation X and Cable worth getting? I wanna get the whole saga but the amount of space that all these comics take up is really intimidating. This list is awesome, now I can read them in the right order so that one series does not ruin another with spoilers, I’ve realized that just going by the dates isn’t accurate enough. One thing I noticed that was missing is the Magik (Illyanna Rasputin) 4 issue series, it can be placed after X-men 160. Thanks again.

    1. Just to be clear, when I wrote completed uncanny xmen, xmen vol 2, xfactor, wolverine vol 2, Excalibur, and new mutants, I meant collected the runs not read them all. I’m actually right around Uncanny xmen 174 and just starting New Mutants, so I still have hundreds of comics to read. It’s really cool to know that I have a year if not longer worth of reading available, also seeing how the comics change over time as far as censorship and advertisement is like looking into a time machine.

    2. Maybe others will tell you differently, but Cable drifts a bit farther from the X-Men than Generation X, though in general Excalibur also drifted pretty far from the main the X-Men book as well. I would definitely recommend Generation X if you liked New Mutants. Plus, there are a few new mutants that are introduced who do “graduate” to the main team. X-Force is really good during the “Pollina” years when the team reverts to including more of the original New Mutants team. I’ve just read those issues and enjoyed it without missing too much.

  12. Hi there!

I love this list, and I’m actually using it to read the most X-men comics i can.

Regarding this last update, can you please tell, from what number the changes started? Because i picked up from the last issue of the previous list, but i noticed that were some changes made to the order prior to that issue. In this regard i would like to know exactly from where there are changes.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Best regards

    1. All of the Marvel NOW! stuff has been shifted, so have another look after AvX. There was a numbering issue as well as of Uncanny X-Men (2011), so from that point on the numbering may be different even if the order itself hasn’t change. Another major change was the addition of some Avengers issues in the Silver Age as well as some “Vs” mini-series (Alpha Flight, Fantastic Four). I don’t have the number changes themselves offhand, but this should help you navigate a bit through the changes in the meantime.

  13. omg I found this list a couple of years ago and have been following it down to a T for a long time (I copied the whole thing and saved it to word). I just came to check it out on the webpage today, and it’s ALL DIFFERENT!!! OMG my life is over! I feel like I’m all out of order now. I’m on uncanny x-men 165 finally about to hit the new mutants (been following the order you provided back then since issue one) and now that I look at this page, you added x-men the hidden years and x-men first class in between comics I already read a long time ago. are those really necessary? they weren’t back then. I would like to read them but I hate to see that now I have to go back in the story. this list is starting to get confusing. I do LOVE that you made it, but now I feel odd cause I REALLY depended on the other one for a LONG time, and now that I see this updated one I have to go back now? um okay. I guess. but thanks tho. just thought I’d rant a little. so this list is ever changing then -_- I know it needs updates with the newer issues. well it’s all good thanks for your help. lookin forward to reading the hidden years and first class now. will start once I finish up this drama with the brood.

    1. No need to go back if you don’t want to. We’ll be working on an “essential” reading list to help reduce the reading list. I’ll add relevant issues as they come in or are requested.

      1. it’s all good i like reading all the side comics. I like seeing how all the stories tie together. this huge list is perfect to me. I don’t mind going back now to read those issues. The initial shock is over now lol. interested to see your essential issues list but in all honesty I feel spoiled and enjoy all the side stories with the new mutants and cable and excalibur and all them (tho I haven’t got that far yet, JUST hit new mutants graphic novel). I will be following this list for my whole life as far as reading ALL of X-Men, so keep up the good work!

  14. btw I noticed there is a story called X-Men the Early Years. I see you have first class and Hidden Years in the list, but didn’t see Early Years. Would you happen to know if I read that before or after Hidden Years?

  15. In between New Mutants #13 and #14 there is mini series called Magik # 1-4. It’s about Illyana’s reflections on her hidden Limbo years. Reprinted as hardcover and paperback, X-Men: Magik: Storm & Illyana.

    1. thanks Magik is one of my FAVORITE characters. Glad I saw this comment. Downloading the mini series and will definitely read it between 12 and 13 of new mutants.

  16. Hi!

First of all thanks a lot for your awesome job! Im reading all X-men and i’m using this web page as my guide.

I found a little mistake, I have just read New Mutants #90, and in one conversation in the second page, cannonball talks about Jean Grey and I found a “*” character that referred me to Uncanny x-men #264. So I think there is a little confussion there. Hope that info helps!

  17. Hi again, been following your awesome list all the way from issue 1 and have read every issue you said up to where Rogue joined the team. the series has made many references in regards to a rivalry between rogue and dazzler, and talking to some other fans, I heard they even had a love triangle with warren. In the list the only dazzler I see is the graphic novel. You should definitely add the essential dazzler issues in this list since it does have to do with a lot of x-men. LOVE your list! I share it all the time in fan pages and on my X-Men Comics fan page on facebook. We all love you! Thanks!

  18. I have posted this comment on another page on this site, however I feel this page is a more appropriate place for it (I’m sorry for posting twice!)

I have read AvX, the latest issue of The All-New X-men and part way through Battle of The Atom and that’s it… I have watched every single X-Men cartoon (I know it’s not 100% accurate with the comics) and I have read about many of the classic stories.

However I now need to know how Jean Grey died last time and I need to know more the events just before her latest death and just after it.

I was told that I would be able to comfortably start reading at AvX, providing I knew what happened in House of M (which I did… Scarlet Witch goes crazy and cuts the mutant population down to 198 (or there a bouts )) but now I have gotten to a part of Battle of The Atom where a Jean Grey from the future comes to the present day (after AvX and where the original 5 X-men are currently) however, she wears a mask that is the mask worn by her killer. I would like to know about her killer and her death.

In a nut shell I need to know where I should start reading.

I guessed House of M, X-Men: Messiah Complex (to explain Hope), X-men: Second Coming (the return of Hope) and X-Men: Schism (to explain the friction between half of the X-men.

    Is that it?

    1. The New X-Men run by Grant Morrison is what you’re looking for. I’m surprised no one suggested that run to you, as that and Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men are both fan favorites and important to continuity.

However, that Jean Grey from the future was wearing a Xorn did not have that deep of a meaning behind – it was mostly just the mystery as to who was behind the mask that was intriguing.

  19. Yeah after finishing the book I realise that had no importance at all and the book explained that Jean Grey, I just needed to be patient in stead of rushing to conclusions!

Thank you for the help anyway and I will look at Grant Morrison’s run.

  20. This list is missing the “Gambit & Bishop – Sons of the Atom” mini from 2001 (alpha, 1-6)

The list I pulled that from places those issues between uncanny 391 and cable 96

(the list I pulled from doesn’t go past 2003 so your list is by far more complete due to it’s being up to current, thank you for maintaining this)

  21. 2 more quick omissions to note..

    1. Weapon X – Agent Zero (one-shot). This should probably appear after X-Man 75, before Deadpool (first non-mini 57). Which brings us to 2…

    2. (this is a matter of opinion i suppose) I wonder if you would consider adding the original runs of Deadpool to this list. I think alot of people consider Deadpool to be a mutant/X title, especially with his involvement in weapon X and wolverine and Cable and such…although it’s definitely a bit of a grey area as to whether his series belong here or not…but I vote yes

    1. You’re not the first to request it. I retrospect I wish I would have included his books. I will probably consider it once again when I review the full list at the end of the year (I’m planning on creating a trimmed down “essential” X-Men reading list, which would allow the full one to get even bigger!).

  22. Thank you for such a great list! I’ve been an x-men fan since the cartoons from the 90’s and always wanted to get into the comics but keeping track of issues can be so hard. After seeing this list about 3 months back I decided to get through all of it. Right now i’ve just finished x-factor 1st series 17, which leads me to a question.

Are you going to add the Fallen Angels miniseries? It’s my impression that chronologically it takes place right after x-factor 17. Also do you know if there was a phoenix limited series around that time? I found a reference to it on the fan-mail page for x-factor 17 but can’t find it on the list, or an ad for it.

Anyways, keep up the great work!
    🙂

    1. I had originally omitted it because it strayed a bit from the “Mutant” theme, but I would add it now that the list is a bit more complete. The New Mutants issues of that era are the most affected by this mini-series.

  23. Is there a better way you’d like to receive omissions or suggestions to the list other than comments to this?? maybe an email or something??

p.s. the fact that this exists is amazing, thank you again and again

  24. This is great! I’ve always wanted to start reading X-men comics but it’s rather daunting . I’m one of those who don’t like jumping in the middle of a story and prefer to read things in order. I hope this is updated again soon! (though I could probably piece the newer ones together on my own…)

  25. Thanks so much for this.

I never would have jumped into the Marvel (Digital Unlimited) Universe without such a checklist.

(If Marvel wants more subscribers, they’ve gotta do something like this).

Do you plan on adding 2014 to keep it current? Out of curiosity, where are Deadpool & Cable and Deadpool Merc With a Mouth?

I’m a completist so I gotta make sure I read everything in order. Thanks so much for your efforts.

  26. Hi !
Thanks for the list, it great!
I have been reading all from the start, but I have seen that new thing have been added, so I didn’t read some, others I go back, anyway this list it’s awesome.
Right now I’m reading Uncanny Xmen 331 but I notice there’s have been references to Sabertooth issues after what happened in Uncanny 328.

  27. Why does the 2012 series “Age of Apocalypse” only goes, on this list, to the number 6? (there were 14 books published).
Are the rest of them out of continuity?
Thanks foi your help, and congratulations on the amazing job on the list!!
    Best regards.

  28. So I finished Battle of the Atom, and already have the comics from All new x-men 18-21 and Uncanny X-men 14-20 Is there any specific order?

    1. I’ll be updating soon, but in the meantime, this is what I have (though it’s important to note that reading orders for current ongoings are constantly changing. I update if I have the information, but I wouldn’t rely on this site for current and frequent updates on those titles).

  29. As someone who is just starting to read this and knows nothing about the comics, so is therefore not likely to notice or see revisions that occur with this list, i have a few questions;
1- is everything created so far compiled into the list, and if not, would it be too difficult to ask for you to list them (doesnt have to be chronological)
2- as new comics are coming out all the time and may have to be placed higher up in the list, and as said above, would not see it added, is there an easy resource to see what new “saga” or titles are being released so that when i EVENTUALLY finish this immense list (thank you for it by the way) i can jump into those without consulting a huge list to find a minute revision?

    1. 1- Not everything is in this list. Some things are missing just by oversight, others by judgement call (i.e. cameos that don’t seem relevant) and others because they may not be considered in canon.

2- If you get a new issue, I would just search the list for it. If you are reading new comics, read them as they come out… no reading order necessary. It’s only when reviewing a large volume of back issues, without an apparent release date that a list like this comes into play.

  30. Is there a way to download this list as a .csv file or xcel document?

I work offshore and can’t pull up the site from out there. I’d like to have the document handy so that I can keep up with where I am at. I apologize in advance if this is already possible and I”m just over looking it.

Fantastic list! This has made reading all the material in order so much more enjoyable.

  31. Hey, great list.

i think you are missing Giant Size Fantastic Four #4, which was included in X-Men Masterworks #8, Jamie Madrox is the key villain in the story and Prof Xavier makes a cameo. not sure what your criteria for inclusion is though.

  32. I noticed that you included issues of Gambit Vol 5 that don’t seem to exist. Your lists shows #18 and 19 but the info I can find online suggests Vol 5 ended at #17. Just thought I’d let you know! Thanks for so much work and the recent update. Your work inspired me to make my own list while I waited for an update from you. Now I am cross checking to see what we have different. Keep it up!

    1. Also you are missing Uncanny X-Men Vol 2 #4 (2001) during the Regenesis era. It can probably just go right below #3 because 1-4 are part of the Everything is Sinister story arc. Thanks again!

    2. And one last thing for now. Because you skipped that one Uncanny X-Men Vol2 #4, the numbering is off from there down.

And at the start of AvX your number goes back to the 430’s making everything there forward a little skewed.

Just thought I’d give you so tips for your next big update 🙂

  33. Phenomenal work here, thanks. Critique: Personally, I would recommend reading “Giant Size X-Men First Class #1” after the 1975 Giant Size X-Men, since that’s when characters like Storm/Wolverine were introduced.

    1. Thanks. I very certain the Storm/Wolverine X-Men aren’t in that issue (Maybe you’re thinking of Giant Size Uncanny X-Men First Class?).

  34. List seems to be missing X-Statix (continuation of 1st X-Force series). Also, if list is chronological, shouldn’t Wolverine The Origin be at it’s beginning?

    1. Magneto Testament is non-flashbacky series taking place in the past. Shouldn’t it be moved earlier?
Majority of First Class was put between UXM#23 and #24, yet it numbers are 39.xxx.
Giants Size X-Men #1 number wasn’t changed to accommodate for Giant Size Fantastic Four and First Class Finals.
Shouldn’t Incredible Hulk #340 be on the list? It’s Wolverine VS Hulk and got included in The Fall of the Mutants Omnibus.

    2. It’s reading order, not necessarily “chronological”. Reading Origin at first will ruin the mystery of Wolverine. Issues are placed where they are best experienced (which is often chronological, but not necessarily so).

X-Statix isn’t included, though mostly because it is it’s own thing and hardly referenced. You can read it any time after the end of X-Force.

  35. Hi and thanks again for this list.
I have a question, why after the # 553.038 comes the # 534.125? is there a reason or is just an error? looks like the order is fine but no the numbers

    1. Errors in the numbering is mostly due to me changing the order and forgetting to update the numbers.

I’ll probably remove the numbering next update, as too many people are spending their time correcting the numbers rather than the actual order, and the numbers are meaningless as they change each update anyways.

  36. Marvel Fanfare #4 is present, but #1-3 are missing and they are the part of the same story. They should also be on the Spider-Man list.

    1. It seems that it should go between 219.02 & 219.03 for Spider-Man and somewhere before Contest of Champions for X-Men (which is also missing here).

  37. X men first class should go after Uncanny X-men #33, I think. I haven’t read #33 yet, but X men first class 1st series #4 seems to refer to the story that is summarized above for #33.

  38. First, this list is absolutely fantastic! I started about 9 months ago reading all the team titles from Uncanny X Men # 1 onwards and this is the perfect chronology. I just got into Excalibur last week and I’m currently on #22 and Cable appears and as far as I can tell it’s his first appearance anywhere, before New Mutants or Uncanny X-Men. Again, thanks so much for this list, I’m getting so much enjoyment out of reading through these.

  39. I just got up to reading it in the order and I think 514.033 X-Factor Layla Miller #1 should be placed somewhere between 494.002 X-Factor 3rd series #27 and 514.023 X-Factor 3rd series #41 instead of where it is currently. Personally I think it should be put right before 514.023 X-Factor 3rd series #41 but it definitely needs to be moved earlier than where it currently is.

  40. Forgiveness for my bad English, I am Brazilian and I’m not used to write in that language. (I’m using google translator xD)

First wanted to congratulate him for making this fabulous guide, he helped me a lot in my desire to start reading X-Men. But I wonder why the list stopped being updated?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. Time. You can find most of the new updates in the Marvel Now! reading order, which will eventually lead to an update here.

As stated elsewhere many times over: these reading orders aren’t meant for new issues – they shift their placement too much to be reliable, and at that point, you should just read them in publication order anyways.

  41. Hey, I was just wondering why Uncanny X-Men #289 and #290 are listed in the year 1967? I’m pretty sure they were published in 1992, unless I’m totally missing something.

And also, this list is the best! You’re seriously amazing for putting this on the internet. I wanted to get into X-Men comics but was a little overwhelmed since I’m a huuuuge completionist/perfectionist type of person, so being able to track my reading with this list is a huge help 🙂

  42. Just saying thanks. Now that Marvel Unlimited seems to work well, I’ll probably be following this. This turns something massively overwhelming into something only slightly overwhelming 😉

On a fun note, I was a huge childhood fan of X-Men Animated Series and in just the very first issue (Uncanny #1) I’m seeing their inspiration for some of the episodes early on (missile base, etc). Also read X-Men #1, which has some fun references to Uncanny #1 (Iceman NOT being able to freeze missiles). Very cool how they did that.

  43. Great list. I’m actually reading through select issues at the moment and I’m up to Uncanny X-men #170.

But just wanted to point out that you haven’t included the new material in the classic x-men series.

  44. So…I’m new to this, what do I need to read after the last comics listed here? (Guardians of The Galaxy 3rd series #13)

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    1. Stick to publication order for comics within the last few years. It gets too fluid to post something definitive when those storylines are still ongoing.

  45. Thank you so much! This has been EXTREMELY helpful. Is there any way you could fill in the roster for the issues you haven’t filled in yet? Thank you!

  46. Hello, thank you for this fantastic listing. I’m going through all the issues and I noticed a few mistakes within your list, which considering the size and scope, is to be expected.

The first is that you have Dazzler 39 which does not feature the X-Men, Dazzler 38 does.

The second is you have Wolverine and Nick Fury Scorpio Rising #1, when I think you meant to have Marvel Graphic Novel #50 Wolverine and Nick Fury The Serpio Connection. Dazzler is already part of the X-Men in this series, and it features Psylocke with Arcade, so I’m not sure where it would chronologically, but likely after Dazzler #38.

Another is that you have X-Factor Annual listed twice.

Lastly, Power Pack #12 should be listed before X-Men #195. Nightcrawler and Shadowcat are in that issue, and it leads into X-Men #195.

Thanks again for this great list!

  47. why does 39.003 and all of those come before 28? should i go by the numbers listed or the way it is listed?

  48. Hi There!
I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you putting this together. I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into this. Great job.

  49. What about Contest of Champions and Contest of Champions II they have prominent appearances of the X-Men. Plus the DC vs Marvel All Access series. Are these in the 616? I know of them but haven’t read them.

  50. Where would fantastic four #28 volume 1 go? It’s the first meeting between the two teams. I just picked up a copy and would like to read it chronologically with uncanny x-men.

  51. Hey just wanted to say thanks for this list it’s a real help since I’ve decided to start the mental task of trying read all the X-books from the start….

  52. First off love the site. Thank you for all the hard work you have put into this continuity awesomeness. Now my question.

Is there evidence of Cyclops being out of jail before uncanny avengers #1-4, I just assumed that AvsX: Consequences would come right after those, but you put them quite a few issues before. I haven’t read the issues you put in between so sorry if it is obvious.

  53. I noticed that the X-Men First Class #4 featuring Dr. Strange and Juggernaut mentions a previous encounter between the X-Men and those two fellows, but the issue it’s referring to, I believe, is Uncanny X-Men #33, which is after where the First Class series is listed. I’m just curious as to whether the First Class series is supposed to be a little later in the list or if the series is meant to be more interspersed with the original Uncanny X-Men, but is kept together for continuity sake of the First Class title. Thoughts?

  54. I think q the events of the New Mutants # 50 and before Avengers vesus X-Men, also when you later add the X-termination event and ends the phase of Astonishing X-Men, and wonder if it will later add Avengers has Sunspot, Cannoball and Wolverine, New Avengers with Beast and Fearless Defenders Dani Moonstar, AXIS and will end this phase of Marvel Uncanny # 600 already was released and then come Secret Wars !!

  55. I to following the chronology of the X-Men in the first two websites and this one in Comics back Issues the second and Marvel Wikia (http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/X-Men_Reading_Order) its timing after the stage of VvsX it was more complete than the Marvel Wikia further this incomplete in the general sense I think you should take a look of it and complete that part of the chronology and I hope to update the chronology soon!

  56. First off this list is amazing and exactly what i’ve been looking for for quite sometime, so thank you!! I was curious how often it’s updated? I’m sure this is a gigantic undertaking especially across all the other series you do.

    Thanks!

  57. Hey, small oversight but you left X-Man #30 off the list. There’s also X-Man All Saints Day, I haven’t read it yet so I don’t know if it’s not part of the canon.

  58. Is there a possibility of updating the list to include everything that has happened so far?? Inhuman V x-men, death of wolverine, death of X, etc.??

  59. I love this reading order. I’ve been trying to read the Uncanny X-Men books chronologically and so far it’s been great! Will there be an update to the list next year for all the X-books after Trial of Jean Grey? I’ve been trying to figure out how to read after Secret Wars the Extraordinary X-Men and Uncanny X-Men books so an update for those would be amazing. Thank you so much for all your hard work on making these lists. I know it isn’t easy and it takes a lot of time but I know all of us comic fans appreciate it so much.

  60. I just wanted to say thank you for this list. I’ve been making my way through Uncanny X-men, and New Mutants for almost a year now. This list has been vital to my enjoyment of the series. Without this list I’d be lost. I find it to be much better than any other I’ve found for just the X-Men stuff that matters.

  61. Thankyou so much for still updating this. im reading from the start and am posting the covers on insta as i read them “xmencovers”

ive noticed that around uncanny 250 on this list the numbers begin to not match up.

dont think it effects anything, but thought id just let you know

  62. Finally an update! Thank you so much! I was getting to the end (Trial of Jean Gray) and there was a lot of holes that im filling up now

    Great work!

  63. Thanks for the update.

By the way, I was using the 2013 version, that i copied in an Excel sheet. I just tried to compare the two versions, and it seems that the numbers in the first column are wrong… It seems to be a real mess from 245.001…

Can you please have a look at it and fix it ?

(Sorry if my english is sometimes bad, I’m french)
